Dementia Action Week 2022
Care & Repair works with all members of the community to help them to live independently at home and during Dementia Action Week 2022 we spent time with people who live with dementia, and those who care for them plus the agencies and organisations who offer support.
Following the recent development and extension of our Home Plus service, the Dementia Action Week’s events allowed us to focus on, and further connect with, those members of the dementia community who are under-represented and can struggle to find the support they might need.
The BME Dementia Roadshow was a highpoint of our week, organised by Touchstone and held at Leeds Civic Hall.
The BME Dementia Roadshow brought together those who access dementia support services, medical professionals and other local support organisations (like Care & Repair) to explore and share news and views and opportunities through talks and stalls and conversation.
Our Service Delivery Manager, Sharon Brooks (pictured) spoke at the event about the wider cultural considerations of dementia, whilst we shared a stall with Engage Leeds and networked with Carers Leeds, Touchstone, The Association of Blind Asians amongst many other local organisations.

Also in attendance was our Dementia Support Worker, Judith Dunderdale, pictured at the top hosting the Care & Repair stall, who, having spoken to so many service users and service providers said, “What a brilliant opportunity this has been to connect and collaborate with service users and fellow organisations. We’re so inspired to explore developing and reintroducing some really inclusive services at Care & Repair that focus on the needs of the individual, whilst taking into consideration cultural experiences and backgrounds.”
