The Challenge

Mr Lewis 92 years old and unsteady on his feet now.

He was unable to step up into the shower tray, had had several falls and had a very old electric shower with a cramped and small enclosure. His 88 year old wife struggled to help him in and out of the shower.

The Solution

He found out about us from a friend who happened to be one of our service users. They did not wish to wait between 6 to 12 weeks for an assessment via Adult Social Care. They also believed their personal savings would prevent them qualifying for a DFG – Disabled Facilities Grant.

We visited Mr & Mrs Lewis to discuss their needs and agreed a plan with them to adapt the bathroom. The design allowed them to maintain their independence. We tendered the work to contractors on our Approved Contractors List and supervised the works through to completion. Our supportive process takes the worry from the clients when undertaking adaptations or general building works.

The Benefits:

A new electric shower with anti-scald device was fitted for safer showering.

A shower seat was also fitted as well as anti-slip floor covering.

Easier for Mrs Lewis to help her husband with his bathing needs and gave Mr Lewis back the control of his personal and bathing needs.
