Dementia

The Challenge

Mr K is an 82-year-old male with Dementia who resides with his family in a privately owned detached property.

Due to his Dementia and also language barrier, communication was undertaken via his son and sister-in-law. Mr K shares a bedroom downstairs with his wife, which also has an en-suite bathroom. The downstairs en-suite had a large corner bath but no support and the family wanted grab rails installing. Mr K also utilised the upstairs bathroom however there was no support on the staircase. The home was also encountering draughts from the downstairs windows and advice was also required specifically around cold brick insulation.

The Solution

Two 18-inch ridge rails were installed and also a 12-inch grab rail next to the toilet. The long-term aim was for a walk-in shower therefore a referral was undertaken to Adult Social Care. Three mopstick rails were fitted to the stairs. The upstairs shower unit also required a ridge rail therefore an 18-inch vertical ridge rail was fitted. A referral was undertaken to Green Doctors to assist with the draughts.
