Helping Someone With Dementia

The Challenge

An 82-year-old gentleman with dementia lives with his family in a privately owned detached property.

Due to his dementia and his language barrier, communication was via his son and sister-in-law. He shared a bedroom downstairs with his wife, which also has an en-suite bathroom. The downstairs en-suite had a large corner bath but no support and the family wanted grab rails installing. He also used the upstairs bathroom however there was no support on the staircase. Draughts from the downstairs windows were creating problems throughout the house.

The Solution

Six rails were installed throughout the home, on the stairs and in the bathroom, to ensure that Mr K could move safely around the home. A referral to Green Doctors was made to assist with the draughts.
