A Bathroom Transformation

The Challenge

An elderly gentleman had been struggling to use the bath due to problems with his joints. He had a shower over the bath but it was difficult to reach to wash sufficiently.

His wife had to support him with washing and, although they had tried a bath board, this was still difficult to get his legs over.

An O.T. (Occupational Therapist) had seen the bathroom and referred them to Adult Social Care, both the O.T and Social Services said that the best option would be to have the bathroom adapted.

His wife phoned Age UK who recommended she contact Care & Repair.

The Solution

A member of the C&R team came out to the house to assess and advise and it was agreed that the work should take a week.

We removed all fittings and supplied a new shower with extended riser and rail, slip-resistant flooring, humidistat fan and light fitting to the outside of the bathroom wall.

The gentleman was provided with a grab rail for the shower and toilet, a padded fold-down shower seat as well as adding a basin and mirror to the wet-room as an extra fixture.

All work was completed within a week.
