Fitted Wetroom with Choice of Tiles

The Challenge

An elderly gentleman had been struggling to use the bath due to problems with his joints. The shower was over the bath but it was difficult to reach to wash sufficiently. His wife had to support him with washing and, although they had tried a bath board, this was still difficult to get his legs over. His wife phoned Age UK and was recommended to speak to Care & Repair. An Occupational Therapist had also come to look at the bathroom and had referred them to Social Services. Both the O.T and Social Services said that the best option would be to have the bathroom adapted.

The Solution

The Occupational Therapist got in touch to request a bathroom adaptation and a member of the team came out to assess and advise and said that the work should take a week. The workmen removed all current fitting and supplied a new shower with extended riser and rail, slip-resistant flooring, humidistat fan and light fitting to the outside of the bathroom wall. The gentleman was provided with a grab rail for the shower and toilet, a padded fold-down shower seat as well as adding a basin and mirror to the wetroom as an extra fixture. All work was completed within a week.
