About Sharon Brooks
I started my career working in the NHS as an Auxiliary Nurse working on a surgical ward. I working long shifts and weekends, caring for patients who had undergone surgery. I found my role as an Auxiliary Nurse very rewarding, however after two years I decided I wanted to work in a field with more sociable hours.
I started working as Trainee Housing Officer for a local Housing Association. Alongside my role, I undertook a housing course which lasted two years. After completing my training and qualifications I came across a post at Care & Repair for a Caseworker position. I knew that this role was well suited to me and that my previous experience would allow me to excel in this position. I find it very rewarding catering for the wellbeing of older and disabled people.
My initial role at Care & Repair involved visiting clients and assessing their needs. My management role has enabled me to influence change both within the organisation and the wider community through voicing the needs of the client groups we support.
I still find my role very fulfilling and love working for a 3rd sector organisation, but feel we have so much more to do to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people in the community.
